The Colour of Honey...

...is Goldeny, for bees sup at goldeny flowers like pansies and buttercups.  And Yet,  just Look at all the other-coloured flowers they take their nectar from to produce more GOLDENY honey...

Well, look at two of them anyway...

And then, read this extract:

"Beekeepers in northeastern France have been alarmed to find their bees producing honey in unnatural shades of green and blue...
It is thought the bees have been eating the sugary waste from M&Ms, small chocolates in brightly-coloured shells."
(BBC News 4 Oct 2012)

It's puzzling (isn't it?), why the colour of M&Ms should affect the colour of honey when the colour of petal doesn't.

The unfortunate thing is that they can't sell the blue/green honey and must throw it away.  For the colour of our food does hugely affect our appetite...

In 1981, George made a celebratory dollop of red, white & blue mashed potato for Diana & Charles' wedding.  It took enormous skill and dexterity to produce, and he was justifiably proud of the result.

But no-one could eat it except with eyes shut, and it went the way of the blue/green honey.  (In spite of its potently enticing aroma).

A sad tale altogether, but luckily the colour of honey can but lead us to The Colour of Money and Paul Newman...

...and the twinkling Colour of those eyes

And here's another twinkling specimen we saw in concert last night:

The gifted and delightful Andy Fairweather-Low, of course!

There’s a lot of fuss on British TV about today being the 50th birthday of James Bond films. Maracas to that. More famous and more loved is the one that is truly a star. Happy Birthday Dolores.

And thanks for a great post. Beautiful, beautiful snaps of bees- adorable little creatures, aren’t they? Paul Newman is another of my idols. Great actor who appeared in many great films.

Some colourings can be off-putting. I would bin the green honey immediately but it’s a shame that the blue honey has to be discarded. The red, white and blue mash would go down a smash with me.

Happy Birthday, dearest D. And thanks CI for keeping up with this. I am rubbish at dates.

Love honey and I'm working my way through a jar of the local stuff day by day. Back in my early days, my brother had a school friend who's dad kept bees. "Buzzy" Bowen, as he was known, kept us in the nectar for several years.

I an off to the beach this weekend for a long anticipated and much needed vacation. I will check in when I get back.

Thank you once more, merry CI! And how Gifted you are with your displays - it's just like having you serenading outside the window - splendid image!

JW, thank you hugely for those kind warm words (just blow my nose a bit...). Yes, bees are Delightful, as are hornets, who lived busily in the attic above our bedroom in France for a whole summer. Friends warned us of their venomous evil, but if we met them outside they kept their distance. (We often had that effect).
(Smash in the post).

Expat, many many thanks. Buzzy Bowen sounds terrific - did you ever get involved in collecting the honey? I'd definitely want a very big hat.

Have a Fabulous Joy-filled & well-merited weekend

Well done with the pic upload, Dolores, give yourself a slap on the back.

I have a few Roger Waters (Pink Floyd guy) albums and Andy F-L features on them. Glad you enjoyed your concert. OK, let's take the uploading up a notch. Insert a You Tube vid of Andy in your post.
Dolores, I'm rooting for you. Go on gal, you can do it.

Dolores Doolittle said...

Thankee JW, & splendid vid idea. On sat night Andy played a bar or two of Brick in the Wall then said (with merry grin), 'That's it - he's got enough money!'

Shall now attempt to Go on gal. I may be some time...

Well, JW, had Stuff to see to first but DO You Know!, once I set to on the vid, 'twas a doddle Because I'd kept handy instructions you once posted for me - Thank you, TechnoMan!

(Was aiming to put Roger Waters/Andy clip but could only find 'Across The Universe' & wasn't keen). Wide-eyed is a delight though
